Iron Ore

For Industrial and Commercial Uses

Iron ore is a rock or mineral from which iron can be extracted. It is used to make pig iron, which is one of the main materials for the production of iron: 98% of the iron ore used in the production of iron. Ore deposits are mainly distributed into four categories: Massive Hematite, Magnetite, Titanomagnetite, Pisoltic Iron Stone. The content of iron varies depending on the type of metal. Hematite typically contains 60-70% iron, magnetite typically contains 65-75% iron, and titanomagnetite typically contains 50-65% iron. Pisolitic ironstone usually contains 40-50% iron.

The most common mineral found in Nigeria is hematite. Hematite is a reddish-brown iron oxide mineral with the chemical formula Fe2O3. Hematite ores in Nigeria usually contain between 50% and 70% iron, making them ideal for iron ore production. Nigeria has the 10th largest copper reserves in the world, with reserves estimated at 2.7 billion tons.

It is expected that the demand for steel throughout the world will grow in the coming years. This is due to the increasing use of steel, which is used in various products, such as cars, appliances, and houses. According to a report by the World Steel Association, global steel production is expected to reach 1.8 billion tons in 2025, from 1.6 billion tons in 2020. This increase in steel production will increase demand for iron ore. The global iron market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.5% between 2022 and 2027.

Chemical composition analysis

Element Chemical Symbol Typical Concentration (% by weight)
Iron Fe 65-75
Silicon dioxide SiO2 0-25
Aluminum oxide Al2O3 0-15
Titanium dioxide TiO2 0-5
Manganese oxide MnO 0-3
Phosphorus pentoxide P2O5 0-0.1

Iron ore composition varies slightly based on the source and what region of Nigeria it is collected.  We encourage buyers to ask for a free sample for their own composition analysis and evaluation of ready-to-ship material. Samples are free of cost but buyers should arrange with a courier service of their choice to pick up a free sample.

Why buy Iron ore from Commodity 1?

Nigeria has not yet fully exploited its iron ore resources. In 2021, Nigeria produced only about 2 million tons of iron ore. This is a small fraction of Nigeria’s iron ore reserves. This is an untapped, nascent market with competitive prices. The increase in steel production worldwide will increase demand for iron ore. The global iron market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.5% between 2022 and 2027.

Commodity 1 provides Iron ore directly from the mine site to the global market. There are no middlemen involved, only our staff on the ground. We strive to organize smooth and transparent transactions. We believe in building long-term relationships with our customers.

Industrial use of Iron

Industry Application
Steelmaking The primary use of iron ore in the production of steel. Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon, and it is used in various applications, including construction, infrastructure, transportation, and manufacturing.
Foundry Iron ore is also used in the production of cast iron. Cast iron is an alloy of iron and carbon, and it is used in a variety of applications, including pipes, valves, and other industrial castings.
Metallurgy Iron ore is used in other metallurgical processes, such as the production of iron powders and iron oxides. Iron powders are used in a variety of applications, including welding, bearings, and medical implants. Iron oxides are used in a variety of applications, including pigments, catalysts, and magnets.
Chemicals Iron ore is used in the production of some chemicals, such as ferric chloride and ferrous sulfate. Ferric chloride is used as a disinfectant and a water treatment agent. Ferrous sulfate is used as a fertilizer and a rust inhibitor.
Construction Iron ore is used in some construction materials, such as bricks, concrete, and mortar. Bricks are made from clay and iron, and they are used for building walls and other structures. Concrete is made from cement, sand, gravel, and water, and it is used for building foundations, roads, and bridges. Mortar is made from cement, sand, and water, and it is used for joining bricks and other masonry units.
Other industries Iron ore is also used in a variety of other industries, such as mining, power generation, and electronics. In mining, iron is used to make explosives and blasting caps. In power generation, iron is used to make boilers and turbines. In electronics, iron is used to make magnets and semiconductors.
